The 2017 Campus Life Leadership Awards annually takes place prior to the start of finals week here at Sacred Heart. Its a unique and fun opportunity to honor and recognize leaders from each class with other various awards mixed. This event is also when Director Ray Mencio and his staff honor teams and individuals for their performances over the course of the season. The awards presented are: Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Game of the Year, Male & Female Athlete of the Year, and finally Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year. The presenters and award winners are detailed below:
Coach of the Year was presented to first year Crossfit Head Coach Channing Vidal. Channing also works in the Residential Life office here at Sacred Heart and has been an avid supporter of adding a crossfit team on campus here over the last few years. Once we were able to add a crossfit gym to campus, Channing was the first in mind to take over as the head coach. Its been an impressive year for the program just getting off the ground, with a solid amount of studnets joining the program for WOD's, open gym times, team workouts and crazy competitions.

Sportsman of the Year was awarded to two-year team President Chris Coyne. He has been influentional since he joined the program his freshman year, and was immediately named Team Captain his sophomore season. He has directed everything from field logistics to ruggerfest, all while being a solid role model and leader for the program. Its no coincidence that the team had its best season historically, advancing to the National stage, with Chris as the President.

Sportswoman of the Year was awarded to Club Softball Senior Alexa Cozzarelli. Alexa has been a mainstay with the program the last four seasons and has directly impacted numerous lives on and off the field with her infectious personality. Director and her Head Coach put it best, "This years Sportswoman of the Year embodies what it means to be a Sacred Heart Pioneer. She has had an immeasureable impact on her teammates, coaches, classmates, faculty and staff and prospective students. She is someone everyone can rely on and has represented Sacred Heart with class and dignity for 4 years."

THe Male Athlete of the Year was presented to Senior Club Football Quarterback Will Kassar. He was named the National Club Football Association's Offensive Player of the Year after a historic season that was referred to as "the best passing season by any team in league history." Will put up impressive numbers, throwing for over 1,400 yards with 17 touchdowns to only 4 interceptions. He also had completion percentage of above 80%. Will captained a second year program that made it to the conference championship game for the second year straight, which is the first time that had been accomplished in league history.

Our Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Sophomore Hannah Rennie. Hannah dazzled for the Elite Gymnastics team this year, placing or winning meets every time the team competed. When they traveled to Nationals in Ohio this past semester, Hannah again led her team, placing 26th overall out of over 200 plus gymnasts while making the Floor finals. Hannah helped lead the team to a successful season overall.

Game of the Year was presented to the Dance Team for placing 3rd at Nationals this past spring down in Daytona. While their team performance may not have gone as planned, their Hip Hop routine placed them 3rd in the nation! They out danced last years National Champion Stephen F. Austin and placed even higher than they did in preliminary's.

2017 Team of the Year was awarded to the X-Men Rugby program, who went undefeated in conference during the regular season and advanced to Nationals for the first time ever. They were met by some solid competition at Nationals, but does not take away from the historic season they had.
