Fairfield, CT- The Sacred Heart Club Baseball team concluded its fall season this weekend when it faced conference foe Northeastern University at Freidman Diamond. The Pioneers dropped both games of the doubleheader by the score of 14-4 and 1-0. With the conclusion of the fall season the Pioneers will head into the offseason holding a 6-4 overall record while sitting at .500 in conference at 4-4.
The fall season showed much promise for the young team as many first year players made impacts. Freshman Patrick Kannaley and Senior Reinaldo Jackson were both named National and Conference Pitcher of the Week for their performances on the mound. Jackson won the award twice for the week of 9/16 and 10/20 while Kannaley was given the award for his performance against conference powerhouse Boston College on 9/23.
Offensively, the Pioneers have sport some impressive numbers having 10 players hitting over .300. Freshman Christopher Seebode leads the team with a .538 batting average while Junior captain Christopher Donato leads the team in at-bats with 27 and stolen bases with 11. Junior catcher Logan LaRochelle leads the Pioneers in runs batted in with 7.
As a whole, Sacred Heart’s pitching staff has been quite impressive thus far. The staff posts a team ERA of 3.76 with 6 pitchers recording an ERA under 2.00 and 5 pitchers posting an impressive 0.00 ERA. Kannaley leads the team with wins (3) while Jackson leads the strike out category with 17. Sophomore closer Max Morrill has been perfect thus far on the bump for the Pionners recording 3 scoreless innings and going 2/2 in save opportunities.
The Pioneers will now look towards a competitive spring season where they will face Northeastern, Central Connecticut, UMass, UConn, and Marist College.
