This past Saturday, Big Red CrossFit competed at Kong CrossFit (Shelton, CT) King of the Jungle II event. The competition team fielded two male teams as well as an additional four more female teams. Even Coach Vidal got in on the action competing in the Rx Men’s Division with his buddy George, owner of local CrossFit box in Monroe (CrossFit TriTown) – the two placed 3rd in their division. All of the teams did really well and we saw lots of personal best lifted, and the community rally together as both spectators and athletes endured what was a long day that included 7 events from 9 AM to 4:30 PM! The result speak for themselves as to how well these folks prepared as we had three females teams place in the top five, which included a 1st place finish from junior nursing students Pietrina Daly and Riley Cassin, a 3rd place finish from freshman Lulu Baledes and sophomore Georgia Viggiano, and a 1st place finish in the Scaled Men’s division from senior Nico Treglia and sophomore Joey Rivelli. Not to be outdone by their teammates, we saw awesome performances out of rookie sophomore Mikayla Hickey and Jenna Downs as the two took on their first of many competitions. Sophomore Nicole Masseroni lit up the competition floor with personal best lifts as she teamed up with rookie junior Lauren MacOlino, (who put on a gymnastics clinic on the pull-up rig), in what is likely her last competition before departing for Switzerland for the Spring semester. Last but not least, senior Jason Iadisernia teamed up with rookie sophomore Chris Ruspini as the two competed in a stacked Rx Men’s Division and did not shy away from any challenge thrown their way.
