Fairfield, CT- The Sacred Heart University Pioneers approach the holiday recess with a current record of 5-8-2, including 2-5-1 in the Super East Collegiate Hockey League. First year head coach Mike Blando leads a roster featuring 14 first year student-athletes. Highlights of the season thus far include a 4-2 win over then #2 Holy Cross, the Crusaders only loss of the season. This season, senior captain Jack Pardue leads the team with 28 points in 15 games. Second is senior assistant captain Frank Vetere with 17 points, including 3 game winners. The top freshman scorer is Mike McGovern, with 9 total points in his first 14 games as a Pioneer. Senior assistant captain Brandon Rozzi is in his 4th season anchoring the team in goal. He has 2 shut outs with 502 saves, bringing his career total to 2,829.
5 of the 8 games remaining on the schedule are SECHL conference games for the Pioneers. To close out the year, SHU takes on Montclair State University this Saturday, December 1st at Wonderland of Ice Bridgeport, CT. Puck drop scheduled for 8pm for the last home game of 2018. On Saturday, December 8th, SHU heads to in state rival Eastern Connecticut State University for a 6pm game.
