Bridgeport, CT- SHU Club Ice Hockey secured 2 conference wins this weekend to keep their playoff hopes alive in the Super East Collegiate Hockey League. On Friday, the Pioneers took on Siena College. SHU got off to a quick start when junior Vinny Perez scored in the fifth minute of the game. SHU tacked on 2 more goals in the first, while shutting out Siena to take a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. After a scoreless second period, Siena tried to make a comeback picking up a goal early in the third period, but SHU was able to shut down the comeback attempt when sophomore Mike Zdanowicz picked up the fourth goal for the Pioneers and secure a 4-2 win.
On Saturday, the Pioneers took on in state conference rival Central Connecticut State University. CCSU got on the board first, but SHU scored shortly after when junior Drew Homola picked up his second goal of the weekend off assists from sophomore Ryan Gawricki and Zdanowicz. Each team added 2 goals in the second period for a 3-3 tie going into the third. Freshman Mike McGovern picked up his fourth goal of the season to put SHU up late in the third period. With a little over a minute left, CCSU was able to tie the game at 4, sending the game to overtime. On the first shift of the extra period, senior captain Jack Pardue netted the game winner.
