Fairfield, CT - The Women’s Club Lacrosse team will be gearing up this coming Monday to start their Spring season. With this being their fifth competitive season here at SHU the team is looking to head back to regionals for the fourth consecutive year. This year’s team will be facing very similar competition from their past with some new additions to the schedule such as Marist College and UMass-Amherst. Other competition the team will face includes Stony Brook University, NYU, Quinnipiac University, Hofstra University, CCSU and Fordham University. The women’s club team will be playing 7 of their 8 games at home on the Pioneer’s home field, starting the season off on February 23rd as they take on NYU.
Returning coaches Julia Consorte and Kara Doyle and returning captain Christina Reilly (Sr.) welcome on board two new captains, Catie Gadue (Sr.) and Julianna Cacciatore (Jr.) who are all excited about the upcoming season, having a freshman goalie Holly Groff who performed well and gained the captain’s and coach’s attention in their fall ball season. The team is looking forward to seeing big things this spring from senior attack player Caitlyn DiCioccio who was a key scorer for the team during fall ball. Critical defensive players for this season are Christina Reilly (Sr.), Julianna Cacciatore (Jr.), Amanda Puccio (Soph.) and Amanda Sullivan (Soph.), this group’s dynamic is key. We are looking forward to seeing Catie Gadue (Sr.) and Christina Calabrese (Soph.) make a big impact on midfield and through transitions. Losing our draw taker, the team is looking forward to seeing a new player step up and use her skills to assist the team to many victories.
