Fairfield, Ct - The Sacred Heart Pioneers opened their conference season this weekend sweeping a three game slate against Hofstra. In Game 1, Sophomore, Bri McInerney received her first win of the year with 6 strikeouts and Senior Kylie Finnerty received the save to conclude the first game. The Pioneers fell behind 6-4 in the 4th inning but put together a quick comeback in the top of the 6th, scoring 3 runs and regaining the lead. The Pioneers pushing another 4 runs across the plate in the top of the 7th inning to increase their lead. Hofstra attempted a late comeback but fell short as the Pioneers prevailed by a final score of 11-8.
In Game 2, the bats were on fire scoring 5 runs in the 2nd inning and another 7. This led to a run rule ending the game after the 5th inning. Kylie Finnerty received her first win of the season for the Pioneers leaving the final score 12-1.
To conclude the day for the Pioneers, they began the game by scoring a total of 2 runs within the first 3 innings. The bats broke out in the 4th inning scoring another 4 runs. Hofstra followed with a 3 run inning to make the score 6-3. The Pios continued their fight scoring another 4 run followed by another 3 scored from Hofstra to end the game at a score of 10-6. Junior captain, Stefani Antoshak received her first win of the year and Freshman, Kaitlin Campbell received her first save of her SHU career.
The Pioneers return to the field this Saturday for their next conference series on Alumni Weekend against UMASS at Pioneer Park. First pitch is at 10:00 am!
