Albany, NY- SHU Club Ice Hockey traveled to Albany, NY on Friday to take on conference opponent Siena College. It was the second match up between the SECHL teams this season, with SHU winning at home October 18th. SHU proved they were ready to play, maintaining possession in the Siena end of the ice for the majority of the period. Senior, Ryan Gawricki, started the scoring with a goal in the first. Up 1-0 after the first period, SHU looked to extend their lead in the second. Sophomore, Vince Loffredo, picked up his first goal of the season, getting assists from linemates sophomore, Shane Wilkinson and junior, Connor Leahy. The Pioneers continued their excellent play on defense, again forcing Siena to play in their own zone. SHU shut the door on Siena in the third, double their point total with goals from freshman, Drew Galea and sophomore, Alex Welch. Senior goaltender, Brandon Rozzi, took home his first shutout of the season, while Wilkinson and Leahy lead the offense with 2 points each. The Pioneers ended up winning, 4-0.
The Pioneers have 2 games on the schedule this weekend. Friday, November 8th, they take on SECHL rival Marist College at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center at 9:15pm. Saturday, November 9th, SHU returns home to host Montclair State University. The game is schedule for 8pm at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, CT.
