Fairfield, CT- The Sacred Heart Club Softball team remains undefeated in conference play with the completion of a sweep against Quinnipiac University. The Pioneers had impeccable defense and stayed hot with their bats each game of the three game series. Also, sophomore third baseman, Carlie Corrigan, was hot at the plate once again going 7-for-12 with 2 runs scored, a double, and 10 RBI’s! This performance earned Corrigan conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row. Senior captain, Jackie Noftle, added to the hit parade as she went 6-for-9 with 7 runs scored, a double, 4 stolen bases, and 3 RBI’s. Sophomore standout, Hailey King, went 5-for-9 with 4 runs scored, 4 triples, and had 5 RBI’s.
The Pioneers couldn’t have done it without phenomenal pitching by junior first baseman, Kaitlin Campbell, who earned the win in game one. She had 4.66 innings pitched, allowing only 2 hits, 0 earned runs, and had 3 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher, Victoria DeMercurio earned the win in game 2 as she had 7 innings pitched, allowing 2 earned runs and 4 hits, while collecting 6 strikeouts in the campaign. With this performance, DeMercurio earned her first conference Pitcher of the Week award.

With this sweep of Quinnipiac University, the SHU Club Softball team remains undefeated in conference play with a record of 9-0. This concludes the Fall 2019 season for the Pioneers, but they will be working hard over the next few months to prepare for their last conference series against the University of New Haven on April 4th.
